Set up Stripe payments

Add the website owner's Stripe keys to accept product and paid-booking payments into that Stripe account.

Connect Stripe

  1. Sign in to the correct Stripe account.
  2. Copy its publishable key and secret key.
  3. In Nune, open Site Settings > Integrations.
  4. Paste them into Stripe publishable key and Stripe secret key.
  5. Select Save Site.

Both keys must come from the same Stripe account and mode. Publishable keys begin pk_test_ in a sandbox and pk_live_ in live mode. Restricted keys begin rk_test_ or rk_live_; standard secret keys begin sk_test_ or sk_live_.

Create a restricted key for the shop

For a website using shop payments, create a restricted key so the shop has only the access it needs:

  1. In Stripe, open Developers > API keys for the correct account and mode.
  2. Create a restricted key. If Stripe offers Start with a template, Full access — except sensitive operations, Custom permissions, or Full access, choose Custom permissions.
  3. Give the key a name, such as Nune shop.
  4. Set these permissions:

| Resource | Permission | Used for | | --- | --- | --- | | Payment Intents | Write | Create and verify payments, and cancel unpaid payments | | Payment Methods | Read | Retrieve payment details when completing an order | | Refunds | Write | Issue refunds from the shop admin |

  1. Leave all other permissions as None. Write permission includes Read.
  2. Create the key and paste it into Nune's Stripe secret key field. Add the matching publishable key in Stripe publishable key, then select Save Site.

Test these permissions in a sandbox first, including checkout, order creation and refunds. When ready for real payments, create a live restricted key with the tested permissions and update both fields in Nune.

This permission list covers the shop only. Paid bookings also use Stripe Checkout Sessions, so a website accepting paid bookings needs additional permissions. Confirm those requirements before using this shop-only list for a shared shop and booking key.

You do not need to manually recreate your shop products in Stripe. Nune manages the catalogue and sends the order's payment amount to Stripe through its Payment Element integration. A prompt to create a non-recurring product in Stripe's setup guide does not mean you need to copy your catalogue there.

For more about restricted keys, see Stripe's restricted API key guide.

Test checkout

Use Stripe test mode first. Complete a low-risk product or paid-booking checkout and check that the order or booking appears in the CMS and the payment appears in Stripe.

Switch both fields to live keys only when the website is ready to accept real payments.

Clicking Exit sandbox in Stripe only changes the dashboard environment you are viewing. It does not change the keys saved in Nune or switch the website to live payments. Complete Stripe's required account activation steps before accepting real payments.

Keep the secret safe

Never place the secret key in page content, emails or support messages. If it has been exposed, replace it in Stripe and then update Site Settings.

If it does not work

Check for mixed test/live keys, copied spaces, an incomplete Stripe account or a custom-domain form blocked by missing reCAPTCHA settings.
