Manage product variations and options

Use an attribute for a customer choice that defines the product, such as Size, Colour or Format. Each set of selected attribute values resolves to a sellable variation with its own price, stock, SKU, fulfilment and shipping. Use a price-only option for a customisation such as Framed or Unframed when it does not need separate stock, files or an SKU.

Set up the main product

Every product has a main product. Give it a customer-friendly name such as Original, Standard or Physical copy, then set its price, stock, option label and options. Customers only need to select its name when variations also exist.

Create a reusable variation name

  1. Open Shop > Variations.
  2. Enter a variation name, such as Original or Print, and select Add.
  3. Edit or delete reusable names from the list when needed.

You can also create a new variation name while editing a product.

Add options to the main product

  1. Open the product for editing.
  2. Use Option label to customise the prompt above its options, such as “Choose a size” or “Select framing”.
  3. Under Options, select Add option.
  4. Enter the option name.
  5. Choose Amount or Percentage and enter its adjustment.
  6. Use 0 for no price change, a positive value to increase the price or a negative value to reduce it.

For example, an original painting can use Unframed with 0 and Framed with a positive adjustment.

Define attributes and add sellable combinations

  1. Save a new product first. On its edit page, open Variations, enter one attribute per line, such as Size: Small | Medium | Large and Colour: Red | Blue, then save once to create the selectors.
  2. Select Add Variation and choose one value from every attribute to define the sellable combination.
  3. Add price-only customisation options if required.
  4. Choose Use main price, Adjust main price or Set fixed price.
  5. Under Stock source, choose Use main product stock to inherit the main product's tracked or unlimited availability, or Separate stock when the combination is managed independently.
  6. For separate stock, leave Track stock for this variation off for unlimited availability, or turn it on and enter the quantity available.
  7. Choose Use product type, Physical, Digital or Hybrid under Fulfilment.
  8. Optionally choose a variation image from the Media Library. It replaces the main product image when that combination is selected and falls back to the main image when omitted.
  9. Choose its shipping profile, or use the main product shipping. Shipping applies when that combination has physical fulfilment.
  10. Save the product. Under Digital files, use Available with to make a file available to every variation or only the selected combination.
  11. Test every public attribute combination and confirm that its image, basket and delivery behaviour are correct.

Options change the selected price but do not hold separate stock. Main-product options always inherit the main product's tracked or unlimited availability. A shared-stock variation uses that same availability. A separately tracked variation uses only its own quantity; an untracked variation remains unlimited.

When a customer purchases a digital or hybrid variation, Nune records the selected variation and grants both shared files and any files assigned specifically to it. Physical and hybrid variations still follow their configured shipping profile.

Each variation can combine multiple attributes, such as Size and Colour. Nune resolves the customer’s selections to the one sellable combination that owns the corresponding price, stock, SKU and files.
