Website settings and domains

Connect a custom domain

Add the domain in Site Settings, then point its www DNS record to the Nune CNAME target shown there. Nune checks the record and completes the secure connection.

Add the domain

  1. Open Site Settings.
  2. Enter the domain under Custom domain, for example example.com.
  3. Do not include https://, www or a page path.
  4. Select Save Site.

Change the DNS

At the domain provider, create or update the required website record:

  • a CNAME record for www using the Nune target shown in Site Settings, normally customers.nune.uk.

The public website uses www.example.com. You may also point the bare domain to Nune, or use the provider's forwarding feature, so example.com redirects to https://www.example.com.

Remove conflicting A, AAAA or CNAME records for www. Do not change mail-related MX or TXT records. DNS changes can take time to reach every network.

Check the status

  • Pending: Nune is waiting for the DNS.
  • Verified: the DNS is correct and SSL is being installed.
  • SSL ready: the secure domain is connected.
  • Degraded: two consecutive checks found that the connected domain no longer points to Nune. The Nune URL remains available while you correct the DNS.
  • Disconnected: the DNS has remained incorrect for 30 days, so the custom-domain connection is being retired. Your website and content have not been deleted.
  • Failed: read the displayed message. Nune will retry automatically.

The Nune URL remains available while the domain connects.

Nune checks connected-domain DNS every 30 minutes. If a previously working domain stops pointing to Nune, the owner receives warning emails after 24 hours and seven days. Restore www CNAME customers.nune.uk; after two successful checks, Nune reconnects the domain automatically and sends a recovery notice.

If it does not work

Check the www record at the domain provider rather than adding the Nune IP to a forwarding field. If the status remains unchanged after DNS has propagated, use Support and include the domain name and displayed error.
