Request a website restore
A restore can replace current content or files. Request it only when recovery is more important than changes made after the chosen backup.
Choose what to restore
- Database plus legacy local files restores dated database content and the local client folder, then recovers missing objects from the current protected R2 copy. Existing R2 objects are not rewound to the selected date.
- Database/content only restores records such as pages, products and settings.
- Legacy local files only restores the website’s local client folder and any uploads that have not moved to R2, without replacing database content.
Current R2 images, media variants and protected digital files are stored separately and are not copied into dated database/local-file recovery points. Missing R2 objects are recovered from protected storage as part of a full restore or through the dedicated R2 recovery tools.
Cloudflare Stream video files are not included in server or R2 recovery points. A database restore can recover the saved Stream references only if the corresponding Stream assets still exist.
Send the request
- Open Site Settings > Restore Site.
- Choose the restore scope.
- Choose one of the verified, dated backups shown for the website. Only backups that support the selected restore scope are available.
- Explain what happened and, if known, the date and time before the problem.
- Select the acknowledgement and type
RESTORE. - Select Request Restore.
This sends a request; it does not run the restore immediately. Nune reviews the selected backup and scope. Once approved, the guarded recovery worker enables the site write gate, creates and verifies a fresh website-only safety snapshot, and then performs the restore.
While it is being reviewed
Avoid making important new edits because a restore may overwrite changes made after the selected backup. The request list shows its current status. The website may briefly show maintenance mode while an approved restore is running.
The safety snapshot is retained separately from the selected restore point. Restoring uploaded files also replaces any archived database configuration with the website's current credentials before the site reopens.
