Pages and content

Import content from WordPress or a data file

Move WordPress posts, pages and WooCommerce products into Nune, or map a spreadsheet-style export to Nune fields.

Open Import in the CMS to upload a standard WordPress XML export, CSV, TSV or JSON file. Nune scans the file first and does not publish anything until you review and start the import.

When creating a website, you can choose Import an existing website as the final onboarding step. Nune creates the website first and then offers Continue to CMS Import, ensuring that module, storage and compatibility checks run against the completed site. You can instead choose starter images or Decide later; both images and import remain available afterward.

Before you begin

What do I need before importing a website?

  • In WordPress, use its native export tool to download an XML file containing the content you want to move.
  • Make sure the Nune website has the Blog module before importing posts and the Shop module before importing WooCommerce products.
  • You need the Imports permission. Safe rollback is available only when your role also has Import rollback permission.
  • Check that the account has enough storage. The scan calculates an estimate before anything is queued.

How do I import a WordPress XML file?

  1. Open Import and choose the WordPress .xml file.
  2. Select Upload and scan. The scan lists posts, pages, products, variations, reviews and media without publishing them.
  3. Review Capacity overview. If the import exceeds the available storage, follow the exact add-on recommendation in the Nune account Billing area, or ask an account owner or admin to update the allowance.
  4. Review any Compatibility review messages. These identify WooCommerce fields that need manual attention because Nune does not have an exact equivalent.
  5. In Review what to import, open Pages, Posts or Products and select all records or only the individual items you need. Group checkboxes show a partial state when only some records are selected. Digital downloads, Digital files and Media have separate expandable sections and individual controls. Categories, tags, variations, reviews and redirects also have their own controls. Reviews can arrive automatically with their products, be held for separate assignment in Reviews, or be excluded. Excluding variations or product downloads puts affected products into Draft so they cannot be sold with incomplete pricing or fulfilment. When a source contains more downloadable files than the website's per-import safeguard, the live counter lets you select up to the limit and import the remainder in another batch.
  6. Review URL conflicts. Keep existing and import with a new URL is the safe default. You can instead skip the imported item, explicitly replace existing content of the same type, or replace an existing redirect. Nune never offers to replace a page with a product or another different content type.
  7. Review the media list. Used images are selected automatically. Unused WordPress images are labelled and can be selected as a group or individually when you still want them in the Media Library. Unselected media is not downloaded.
  8. Select Reserve storage and start import. The import continues in the background, so you can return to the screen to check its progress.

Nune retains each selected full image and creates its own responsive versions. Images embedded in WordPress content and WordPress gallery shortcodes are converted to Nune image and gallery shortcodes where they can be matched.

Supported standalone social-media links are normalised during import. Recognised legacy YouTube, Vimeo and Spotify iframe embeds and Instagram or TikTok blockquote embeds keep their validated provider link, convert to the matching Text Align shortcode, and discard the provider's old layout, attribution and script markup. YouTube video and playlist links are supported.

Linked images and files follow the individual content selection. If a page, post or product is cleared, a file used only by that item is cleared too; files shared with another selected item remain selected. Ordinary Media Library files can be re-checked to keep them independently. Product digital downloads are stricter: they can be selected only while at least one product that uses them is selected. The capacity estimate and storage add-on recommendation update immediately as these selections change, and Nune verifies the calculation again before reserving storage.

WooCommerce product-download references and labels are detected. When their WordPress URLs are directly accessible, Nune downloads them into private digital-product storage and does not also add them to the public Media Library. If WordPress protects a file or returns 403/404, the rest of the product, variations and attributes still import, but the affected product remains a draft so you can upload the missing file in its Digital Files panel. Dropbox links remain disabled. A dedicated authenticated WordPress migration plugin may be considered later if there is sufficient demand.

When reviews are held separately, finish the content import and select Review and assign on its result screen. Nune suggests the newly imported product for each group. You can keep that match, choose another product, make the group a general review, or skip it. Separately assigned reviews enter as unverified and awaiting approval, and repeat handoffs do not duplicate the same WooCommerce review ID.

What WordPress content is supported

Which parts of WordPress and WooCommerce can Nune move?

The importer supports posts, pages, categories, tags, excerpts, publication states, featured images, inline images, galleries, and selectable WordPress PDF and ZIP attachments. It also recognises SEO titles, descriptions, canonical URLs, social-sharing metadata and robots directives from Yoast SEO, Rank Math and common All in One SEO fields. WooCommerce imports can also include products, product and variation SKUs, categories, current prices, stock, variations, product-page related products derived from upsells, checkout suggestions derived from cross-sells, digital or hybrid fulfilment, downloadable files and product reviews.

Blank imported SEO values do not clear SEO already entered in Nune. When an imported item has no individual value, the defaults under Settings > SEO remain in effect.

Nune rewrites links between imported items after their final slugs are known. When a WordPress address differs from the Nune address, the importer adds a selected safe 301 redirect to the existing redirect list under SEO. When Keep existing resolves a conflict, the importer does not create a redirect that would hijack the current page or overwrite the current redirect.

Nune redirects match paths rather than query parameters. WordPress plain-permalink addresses such as /?p=149 cannot be redirected safely because they all share /; the compatibility review identifies and skips them. Nune never creates a redirect for the site root.

Some WooCommerce information has no direct Nune equivalent. The scan warns about sale schedules, weight and dimensions, per-product tax classes and subscriptions. Review those products manually after import. If a related product was not selected and cannot be matched to an earlier import, the result reports that relationship as a warning. Ordinary WordPress PDF and ZIP attachments can be imported to the Media Library; unsupported attachment formats remain listed but disabled.

WooCommerce attributes and values become separate selectors in Nune. Every WooCommerce child variation becomes the matching sellable combination and keeps its individual image, price, stock, SKU, fulfilment type and digital-file assignment when the XML contains the child records. WordPress can omit those children from a single-product export. In that case Nune shows a compatibility warning; use a full export if the complete combinations are needed.

Import a CSV, TSV or JSON file

How do I match columns from another website to Nune fields?

  1. Open Import, choose the file and select Upload and scan.
  2. Choose whether the rows should become posts, pages or products.
  3. Match each source column to a Nune field. A title or name is required; leave fields on Do not import when they are not needed.
  4. Apply the mapping, review storage and media information, then start the import.

This route is useful for exports from systems other than WordPress. It imports the fields you map; it does not infer platform-specific relationships that are absent from the file.

Check results, retry or roll back

What should I do if an import reports warnings or failures?

The completed import shows processed items, warnings and failures. Imported and updated content lists the pages, posts, products and coupons affected. Imported files and media separately lists Media Library items and private digital product files, links digital files back to their product, and reports failed or skipped file counts. Open the issue list for a summary or select Download complete issue report for the full CSV report. You can retry failed content or media without repeating successful rows. A failed background step can also be retried safely.

If an import needs to be reversed, select Roll back safe changes. Nune removes or restores only records that have not been edited since the import. Later edits are left unchanged and counted as skipped. Imported Media Library files remain available because another page or product may now use them. Private digital product files created by that import are retired during a safe rollback when they have not subsequently changed.

Importing the same source again uses its saved source IDs. If someone has edited a matched Nune record since the previous import, Nune reports a conflict rather than overwriting the local changes.

If it does not work

How do I fix a WordPress import that will not start or finish?

  • If Nune says a module is missing, ask an account owner or admin to add Blog or Shop to the website, then scan again.
  • If storage is insufficient, update the account allowance using the recommendation shown in Capacity overview.
  • If a remote image or product file fails, confirm it is still publicly reachable from the old website and retry the failed media.
  • If the import is queued but does not progress, contact Nune Support with the website name and import status.
  • If only particular records failed, download the issue report before editing the source or retrying.
