Product with Variations

Manage different versions of one product

Variations are useful when you're selling several versions of the same underlying product and those versions need to be treated individually.

For example, a particular combination might have its own price or stock availability. Keeping those combinations under one product gives customers one place to make their choice without creating a separate product page for every version.

Tip: If a particular choice needs its own stock or price, consider whether it should be a variation rather than simply descriptive information.

Give customers enough information to choose

The more choices a product has, the more important clear supporting information becomes. Tabs are one way to keep detailed information organised without creating a long page.

Summarise the differences between the available versions and explain anything customers should consider before choosing.

Add measurements, dimensions, materials, technical information or other facts that help customers compare the available versions.

Add care, maintenance, storage or usage instructions where they're relevant to the product.

Explain dispatch and delivery information, particularly if certain versions have different lead times or availability.

Keep stock accurate

When individual variations have their own availability, accurate stock information becomes particularly important. A customer should be able to see what's available without discovering after checkout that their chosen combination can't be supplied.

Check every combination

Before publishing, work through the product as though you were placing an order.

  • Are the variation names easy to understand?
  • Do all valid combinations appear?
  • Are unavailable combinations handled correctly?
  • Does the displayed price change where it should?
  • Are individual stock levels correct?
  • Does the description help customers choose between variations?

Complex products can still have simple product pages. Organise the choices carefully and only show customers the information they need to make their decision.

Use variations when different versions of a product need to be managed individually, such as combinations of size, style or another attribute.

Clear variation names, accurate prices and reliable stock information help customers choose the version that's right for them.

Bundle

Bundles encourage customers to buy related products together by offering an automatic saving. Choose the products and quantities that make up the bundle, then set either a percentage or fixed discount. When the required combination is added to the customer's basket, the bundle saving is applied automatically. They're useful for starter sets, complementary products, gift collections and other items that make sense to buy together.

Terms & conditions
Use this space for any conditions customers should know about your sale. For example, you might explain which products are included or excluded, whether the offer can be combined with other discounts, when the promotion ends, whether availability is limited, and whether any special conditions apply.

Keep the terms clear and specific to the promotion. Your normal returns, cancellation and consumer rights may still apply, so make sure your sale terms are appropriate for your business and the countries you sell to.

Use variations when different versions of a product need to be managed individually, such as combinations of size, style or another attribute.

Clear variation names, accurate prices and reliable stock information help customers choose the version that's right for them.
